Continuing the discussion from 士 (Samurai) Kanji Discussion:
Tsujigiri… Wow, that’s, uh, pretty brutal.
I think I had a kind of idealistic view of samurai. Mixed bag of folks, or was that pretty common?
I was given to think they had a bit more “protective” intentions than random beheadings; but I was poor in History, regardless of my time in school never covering much older World History (unless it was to do with Mythology leading to discussion of the bible ).
So, if anyone is a buff on particularly interesting bits of Japan’s history, especially on this point! Do share!
(I think a lot of my fellow Americans, myself included, have some incorrect ideas about samurai and ninja from our popular media - anyone who didn’t do any independent research, I guess.)
